I chose the Eurythmics’ “Sweet Dreams”, which I distilled to three main concepts — a black hole (suggested by the logic of the relentless beat of the music and by the sense of inevitable destruction of the lyrics), images of human-caused catastrophes (the destructive behavior described in the lyrics is deliberate), and a bold, upbeat shell (the song wraps all the negative content in a poppy, candy-coated facade that never drops and calls it “sweet”).

If I had it all to do again, these years later, I’d probably forgo the acetone-printed images and focus on conveying meaning with the form alone. Then again, I think use of literal images may have been a requirement of the assignment. In any case, it was a valuable exercise (if not completely successful).
