Many plans (most of which fall under the category of “When hell freezes over...”) for alterations to I-35 have been proposed to minimize the segregational effects of the highway, including those to remove the upper deck or to move the entirety of the construction sub-sidewalk level, among others. Unfortunately, within the current system, no feasible alternate solutions exist. If inter-Austin transit were to switch from personal vehicle to a system of more modern public transportation, other highway solutions might become viable.
